On average, Southern Hemisphere blue whales are larger than those in the Northern Hemisphere. The largest recorded were caught off the South Shetlands and South Georgia and were 31,7-32,6 m long. For maximum size descriptions, female measurements are used because female baleen whales are larger than males.
