Most of the other southern fur seal species [other than A. galapagoensis] are slightly larger with mean masses ranging from 34 to 58 kg for females and 75 to 188 kg for males. The exceptions to this pattern are the Cape fur seal (A. pusillus pusillus) and the Australian fur seal (A. p. doriferus), which have mean masses of 58 and 76 kg for females and 247 and 279 kg for males respectively.
