Within Australia, six genera of the subfamily Thelepinae (family Terebellidae) occur and are represented by numerous species. Two new species of Streblosoma, S. minutum, n. sp., and S. prora, n. sp., and five of Thelepus, T. alatus, n. sp. T. boja, n. sp., T. brevicauda, n. sp., T. extensus, n. sp., and T. praecox, n. sp., are described, together with redescriptions of previously known species. Streblosoma longum Mohammed is transferred to the genus Pseudostreblosoma. A Key to the species is given. A discussion is given on the generic and specific characters used in this subfamily and a detailed analysis of the variation in uncini within a row, along the body and between individuals of the same species is provided. The significance of these results is discussed.
