Forty-six species pertaining to 12 genera of stylasterid hydrozoans are described and figured from the insular southwest Indian Ocean, primarily collected from off Glorieuses islands, Mayotte, La Réunion, Walters Shoal, and Sapmer Bank. The study is based on specimens collected from 141 stations. Twenty-five new species are described, bring the total number of Recent (living) species in the family Stylasteridae to 346. An historical summary of previously reported species from this region is given. The genera Lepidotheca Cairns, 1983 and Inferiolabiata Broch, 1951, are synonymized with the senior synonym Paraerrina Broch, 1942, resulting in numerous new
combinations. The status of Stylaster infundibuliferus (Lamarck, 1816) is discussed, and a replacement name for the junior secondary homonym Stylaster infundibuliferus Cairns, 2005 is proposed. Keys to the species of Crypthelia and the unbranched southwest Indian Ocean species are provided. Although various islands within the southwest Indian Ocean appear to have an endemic component, some as high as 50%, most appear
to form a cohesive fauna that can be categorized as tropical southwest Indian Ocean, and one that is discrete from the continental fauna off eastern Africa.
