Taxonomy Schiaparelli & Jirkov (2016) justify species rank for Amphicteis antarctica as follows: "In the case of A. gunneri antarctica we did not examine the holotype, but all the examined specimens collected so far in Antarctic waters, also in accordance with the original description of A. gunneri antarctica, have sharply tapering paleal chaetae like A. japonica and A. atlantica. Therefore, we propose to elevate A. gunneri antarctica to the rank of species level, as for A. atlantica." [details]
