Etymology Benham stated in a footnote that the name Amythas is formed by transfer of the initial "S" of Samytha to the end. Thus the name is made-up as used here and not adopted from (for example) classical personal names. Benham does not state the gender of Amythas, but it is feminine as he used a female suffix for the compound name 'membranifera' (from -fer, -a, -um, meaning to carry) [details]
Grammatical gender Amythas is feminine as Benham used a female suffix for the type species compound name 'membranifera' (from -fer, -a, -um, meaning to carry) [details]
