Homonymy Kefersteina Quatrefages, 1866 is a senior homonym to Kefersteinia Neumayr 1891 in Mollusca [details]
Nomenclature Pleijel (1998:122) discusses the names Psamathe and Kefersteinia. The 2nd is subjective synonym of the first, which is valid, not a junior homonym. Pleijel (p.159) states that Kefersteinia is an objective synonym of Psamathe, but this seems a misinterpretation as they are not based on the same types. Their types are synonyms as subjective synonyms, based on worms originally collected from different places and times. Thus Psamathe cirrhata may or may not be a subjective synonym (currently it is valid, not a synonym), so Kefersteinia could not be a junior objective synonym. Kefersteinia was not a replacement name for Psamathe. [details]
Spelling Quatrefages used the incorrect subsequent spelling 'cirrata' for his species of Kefersteinia instead of 'cirrhata' [details]
Synonymy Claparède (1868:536) originally restored the original combination Psamathe cirrhata (as cirrata) and thus included Kefersteinia in Psamathe. However, Fauvel (1923:238) and others much later (Hartmann-Schröder, 1996) were using Kefersteinia as valid. Pleijel (1998:124) explains why Psamathe is valid over Kefersteinia [details]
