Etymology Not stated, uncertain. Laonice could refer to the character Laonice, sister of Timagène and confident of Cléopâtre in the tragedy in five acts 'Rodogune', by Pierre Corneille (1606-1684). It could also refer to Laonice, referred by the Greek traveler and geographer Pausanias (c. AD 110 - c. 180) in his work 'Description of Greece'. According to Pausanias, Laonice was the wife of Lebadeus, after whom the name of the city Mideia, in Phocis (Ancient Greece), was changed to Lebadeia [details]
