Taxonomy From Hartman (1967: 67): "This species is distinguished from Nicon loxechini Kinberg, 1855 [sic], which has been referred to Platynereis magalhaensis Kinberg, 1866 (Hartman,1949, p. 60). Nereis loxechini Ehlers (1908, p. 73) from the Strait of Magellan was preoccupied and its name replaced by Nicon ehlersi Hartman, 1953. Nicon benhami differs from all these most conspicuously because of the presence of prolonged dorsal cirri and thick, supra-acicular falcigers in neuropodia." [details]
