Podocotyle araii sp. nov., from Sebastes spp. off Vancouver Island, differs from other members of the genus in that it has the following combination of features: a slender body, a short cirrus-sac containing a seminal vesicle with a single anterior loop, a sucker ratio of 1 : > 2, and an indistinctly trilobed ovary. A key is presented to the eight species of Podocotyle recognized as occurring off the Pacific coast of North America.
