The genus
Ophidiaster is strongly represented in Australasia, with at least six Australian species; only one specimen has hitherto been recorded from New Zealand. A second species was recently taken from East Cape and is here recorded.
Odinia although cosmopolitan has been known from Australia from a single species, but has not been previously taken from New Zealand. It is here recorded on the basis of one specimen from off the Chatham Islands
