[Begins] Un des buts de la croisiere de la Calypso, en juillet 1956, était, en particulier, l'étude de la faune du golfe de Guinée. Mais elle ne se limita pas exclusivement a celle région et les dragages cl les chalutages furent nombreux au large du continent africain, de la .Maurilanie a Port-Gentil. Ainsi, le Rio de Oro, la Sénégambie, le Libéria, la Côte d'Ivoire, la Côte de l'Or donnèrent lieu à un certain nombre de stations avant d'aborder les bouches du Niger, le Cameroun, Les iles de Sao Tomé, d'Annobon et de Principe et le Gabon. Plus de 160 stations ont été ainsi explorées, dont une cenlaine ont fourni des Annélides Polychètes. Un matériel considérable (40 espèces), fut ainsi recueilli sous la direction de M. J. Forest et de ses collaborateurs, MM Maurin, Marche-Marchad, Denizot, Carpine et Correia da Costa. Nous remercions M. Forest de nous avoir confié l'étude de celle collection. Si le nombre des stations ayant fourni des Polychètes est assez éleve, une centaine, par contre le nombre des espèces recueillies a chaque station est relativement tres bas : une a six le plus souvent, rarement une dizaine et trois stations seulement ont donne un chiffre plus élevé : St. 1, Rio de Oro, 27 espèces; St. 4, Sénégambie 18 espèces, et St. 108, Annobon, 21.
[ One of the aims of the Calypso's cruise in July 1956 was, in particular, the study of the fauna of the Gulf of Guinea. But it was not limited exclusively to this region and dredging and trawling were numerous off the African continent, from Mauritania to Port-Gentil. Thus, the Rio de Oro, Senegambia, Liberia, Ivory Coast, the Gold Coast gave rise to a certain number of stations before approaching the mouths of the Niger, Cameroon, the islands of Sao Tome, Annobon and Principe and Gabon. More than 160 stations were thus explored, of which a hundred provided Annelid Polychaetes. A considerable material (40 species) was thus collected under the direction of Mr. J. Forest and his collaborators, Messrs. Maurin, Marche-Marchad, Denizot, Carpine and Correia da Costa. We thank Mr. Forest for entrusting us with the study of this collection. If the number of stations that provided Polychaetes is quite high, about a hundred, on the other hand the number of species collected at each station is relatively very low: one to six most often, rarely ten and only three stations gave a higher figure: St. 1, Rio de Oro, 27 species; St. 4, Senegambia 18 species, and St. 108, Annobon, 21. ]
