Etymology Verrill (1900: 657) does not give an etymology, but Axiothella is presumed to be derived as a modified form of Axiothea Malmgren, 1865, which Verrill knew to be a homonym, and here included Axiothea (the senior name but a homonym) in his Clymenella as a synonym, effectively replacing it with Axiothella. Axiothea is a female given name of classical Greece (see Axiothea) [details]
